In a meeting with Cameroon’s Prime Minister Philemon Yang, Dangote revealed that Dangote Cement is commissioning another cement production line in Yaounde, which will increase the company’s total cement output to more than three mmtpa. Dangote Group will invest about US$150mn to build the new cement factory in Yaounde.

He said that the company was already in the process of signing a contract for the construction of the additional production line in anticipation of growing demand for cement driven by huge investments in infrastructure in Cameroon and nearby countries. 

Dangote also added that the firm had already imported 220 trucks and trailers to tackle transport issues. These vehicles will allow for cement to be delivered directly to the end-users in rural areas, and that may lead to stabilisation of prices. The import of trucks will also create up to 5,000 jobs, directly or indirectly.

Stating that cement production in Cameroon had already almost outpaced the domestic consumption, Dangote said that the country will soon be in a position to start exporting cement. He also encouraged the government to use cement in the construction of roads in the country.

“Cameroon will not lack cement. We can assure the government that we are here to stay and will continue to invest,” he noted.

Dangote Cement has been very active in spreading operations across countries in different parts of Africa this year.
